Australia's NWGLDE and AS-4897
Certified SIRA Provider

Not all SIRA Providers are equal. NWGLDE evaluation is the international benchmark - and the certification your state EPA expects you to rely on.

What Is NWGLDE — Why Does It Matter?

The National Work Group on Leak Detection Evaluations (NWGLDE) is an international body that independently evaluates leak detection methods for underground petroleum storage systems (UPSS).

In simple terms: NWGLDE evaluation is the standard that proves a SIRA method actually works — not just in theory, but under statistically rigorous conditions.

For Australian petrol station and fuel depot operators, NWGLDE evaluation matters because:

  • It is referenced in some State EPA requirements and in AS-4897:2009.
  • It is the benchmark for certified loss detection methods for SIRA, ATGs, and Integrity Testing.
  • In the event of a release or regulatory investigation, your provider’s certification is the first thing an EPA inspector will ask for.
  • 95% confidence isn’t an opinion — it’s a measured requirement for NWGLDE certification.

How to Verify Your SIRA Provider

Before assuming your current SIRA provider meets Australian standards, ask these three questions:

  1. Is your SIRA provider NWGLDE evaluated?

Ask for their NWGLDE evaluation certificate. It should be verifiabled.  No certificate = no independent evaluation.

  2. What’s their certified Probability of Detection (Confidence)?

AS-4897 and ACAPMA best practices prefer NWGLDE certified third-party specialists under US EPA Protocols.

  3. Does your evaluation cover Australian site conditions?

Evaluations specify what was tested including number of manifolds, tank capacity, variations in climate, throughput (metro vs. rural), and more.

Certified to Australian Standards — It Matters

Fuel Analytics provides NWGLDE-evaluated SIRA loss monitoring, independently certified under Australian standards:

  • AS-4897:2009 compliant — the Australian Standard for leak detection verification → 99.9% Probability of Detection with 23 days of dip data — well above the 95% AS-4897 minimum.

  • The risk of an uncertified provider. Without NWGLDE evaluation, your loss monitoring reports may miss a loss — exposing you to fines, fuel losses and remediation costs.

  • Has your provider changed hands? The Australian SIRA market has seen significant consolidation for certified SIRA results. Confirm that their pricing is fair.

Fuel Analytics is independently owned & operated in Australia. Your records are always yours, our results are always NWGLDE certified.
